Reiter’s somber In the Inner Circle was a highlight of the 2021 Austrian Competition; the writer-director now shows her versatility with a drama of very different tone but with similarly adroit handling of subtle emotions. The focus is on seventeen-year-old Luis (exceptional performance by Luis Rio Aue), an isolated and alienated youth who craves recognition.
