Rebel Pope: Ten Years of Hope (WT) is an update to the scripted tale that chronicles the ascent of Jorge Mario Bergoglio to become Pope Francis during one of the most painful periods in Argentine history. His appointment was heralded as the dawn of a new and more humble day for the Catholic Church and beyond. 2023 marks his ten-year anniversary at the helm of the planet’s most multicultural and multilingual institution, which is also the largest non-governmental provider of healthcare in the world, and the largest charity.
Our update will look more closely at his accomplishments and challenges during a decade fraught with controversy. Pope Francis likes to say, “we are not in an era of change, but in a change of era.” Through the turmoil, Pope Francis has brought many changes to an institution that was losing adepts at alarming rates. His commitment to speak up on issues of climate change have made him a rebel with a noble cause. “We should not be scared of the word revolution”, he says, as he smiles tenderly to the world.
