Few locations have the sort of cultural significance to the gay community as The Meat Rack on Fire Island, a small strip of land that has served as a sexual oasis for men since the 1940s. Though it still serves as a popular cruising spot, its lore and mythology have been depreciating over time, and its history is on the verge of disappearing. Composed of an in-depth history of the land, with insightful and hilarious commentary from some of the people who experienced it firsthand, IN THE MEAT RACK serves as an entertaining and nostalgic reminder of what gay life was like before AIDS.
