Sir David Frost interviews Dame Vera at her home in Sussex and hears about her extraordinary career. She talks revealingly about her childhood in London's East Ham; her days singing with the big bands of the 30s; her role as WW2's Forces Sweetheart and her successful post-war career. With engaging tales about her personal life and career, the programme also features rare archive including recordings from the 30s and hitherto unseen home movies. Sir Cliff Richard, Alan Titchmarsh, Hayley Westenra, Vera's 96-year-old brother Roger and only daughter Virginia all contribute to this warm and engrossing portrait of one of Britain's greatest popular singers.
