剧情梗概：
水产公司经理陶大伟(陈寒柏-饰)，文化少，坚信有投入就有产出，为了儿子陶强能学习上进，绞尽脑汁，不惜一切代价加大投入。换保姆、找家教、调房子、换学校、土留学、包宾馆，但却竹篮打水一场空，家庭战争不断、爱妻离他而去、公司几近倒闭。妻子沈丽丽(宋丹丹-饰)拥有一家美容院，个性张扬、文化层次不高，但追求看似高雅实则平庸的生活，用金钱宠爱孩子，竭力反对陶大伟的教育模式，始终认为学习不好无所谓，只要开心就可以。儿子陶强犹如置身水深火热之中，反抗叛逆的情绪促使他做出了许多令人费解的举动，陶家终日不得安宁。王祖平(沈荣海—饰)是陶大伟多年的朋友，也是重点中学的教师，在家里忍气吞声，十足“妻管严”形象，然而在陶大伟面前，却要表现出“大男子”风度，很想帮陶大伟的忙，老婆却看不起陶大伟，总是意见不一。对儿子王超的教育上，妻子陈佩(胡晴云—饰)以能否赚到大钱来左右发展方向。王超是个聪明好学的孩子，有自己理想的追求，对妈妈的不满和逆反，使王祖平处于尴尬的境地。罗志敏(朱茵—饰)是陶大伟请来的知识型保姆。其女儿李佳是三好学生，母女俩相处融洽，温暖的母爱和对女儿个性的尊重，与陶、王两家形成了强烈的对比。然而热情、唠叨、爱管闲事的她在对陶强的教育上，与陶大伟南辕北辙，由此又掀起了一出出意料之外，情理之中的喜剧波澜。
