剧情梗概：
在某城市里的一个院落里，住着两户人家。张家和李家是多年的邻居，两家生活在同一个屋檐下，有着深厚的感情，生活上有点麻烦也是互相帮助。但是，一起生活难免磕磕碰碰，两家之间总存着不大不小的矛盾。张大娘和张大爷常常抱怨李家人都是人精，碰不得惹不起;同样的李家对张家的一些做法也颇有微词。两家人时而亲如一家，时而因一点鸡毛蒜皮的事儿就闹成一锅粥。张大爷耳朵不好，做事也糊涂，家中大小都是由张大娘说了算，他则常常做些让人哭笑不得的事来。张大娘心思细密，全家上下都由着她打理，难免有点小肚鸡肠。她整日为自己的两个儿子操心，更是一门心思地想着抱孙子，奈何就是不能如愿。张家大儿子洪宝在工商局工作，为人中庸，既顺着媳妇也不违抗母亲，敷衍着过日子。大媳妇诗琴，一直梦想着成为一个白领，终日混迹在人才市场，无暇顾及生儿育女，让张大娘是又气又急。有志者事竟成，诗琴如愿成为了一名职业女性，却变得不再顾家，让家人心生不满。她和李家的大女儿存在着工作上的关系，两个要强的女人经常明争暗斗，互相炫耀攀比，搞得两家人都头疼不已……
