剧情梗概：
白素贞白蛇原是在山野中修炼的一条小白蛇，一日小白蛇被捕蛇老人所捕捉，险遭杀身之祸，幸亏被一位小牧童所救，素贞暗自起誓，此救命之恩永志铭心，「山中岁月轻易过，世上繁华已千年」，素贞经过一千七百年的修炼，终于蜕尽蛇身，得以化作人形，本欲往峨嵋山继续修炼，但经观音大士指点，方忆起人间还有一段情缘未了，素贞依照观音大士的指引，来到杭州西湖寻找前世救命恩人许仙途中遇见青蛇，两人结为主仆，青白二蛇在西湖的断桥上找到了许仙，两人一见钟情，白素贞以身相许，与许仙结为夫妻，而小青与白素贞虽名为主仆，却和素贞情同姐妹，婚后许仙、素贞夫妻恩爱，白素贞为助许仙开设药铺，支使小青偷盗取钱塘库银，东窗事发，小青施法迫使知县轻判，发配姑苏，素贞一路找来，终和许仙相见，素贞说谎骗过了许仙盗库银之事，夫妻二人便在姑苏开设药铺保安堂。端午佳节，白素贞饮下雄黄酒，却现出原形吓死许仙，素贞救夫心切而赶至瑶池求取仙丹，仙丹求取不成，只得硬抢，王母震怒，欲处死白素贞，幸观音大士出手相救，救了夫妻两人。其后，许仙因为医术高明而得罪同行三皇祖师会的成员，成员设计陷害，但都为素贞一一化解，素贞为了不让许仙出丑，令小青偷盗梁王府四件宝物供出展览，梁王虽有查觉，素贞却以宝物为蛮邦贡品要胁梁王爷，王爷自知理亏，遂令知县轻判许仙至镇江。而素贞亦怀了许仙的骨肉。可惜好景不常，如今已成为得道高僧法海，曾经正是一千八百年前捕捉白蛇的捕蛇老夫、六百年后被白蛇偷去仙丹的僧人。法海为一己之私，欲除去白素贞，将许仙强留于金山寺，目地为逼白素贞触犯天条，白素贞为救夫婿，联合小青前往金山寺要人，法海咄咄逼人，素贞忍无可忍，发动水族，水漫金山，誓和法海一较高下，不料却使无辜镇江百姓沦为波臣，因而犯了天条。事后许仙知晓素贞的身份，但俩人却是更加恩爱，许仙，素贞，和小青三人搬回许仙姐姐许蛟容家住，一家和乐。许仙和素贞开设保和堂，济世活人，并且除去了地方祸害蜈蚣精。但就在素贞生下孩子仕林之后，法海以昔日素贞因帮夫心切，和小青数次偷盗库银及珍宝，害得许仙官司缠身，牢狱不断；为害人群，戏弄官府，加上水漫金山，生灵涂炭，是为天理所不容。而将素贞镇于雷峰塔下，告其曰：「二十年之后，待文曲星中状元之日，就是你出塔之时」。许仙伤心欲绝，将仕林交予姐姐抚养，独自前往金山寺出家，以弥补罪过，为素贞赎罪早日出塔。二十年后，仕林已长大成人，娇容和李公甫告知仕林自己的身世后，仕林便发愤图强，立誓必救回生母白素贞，而昔日被白素贞除去的蜈蚣精之父－金钹法王为报杀子之仇，利用善良的玉兔精胡媚娘和采因，欲加害仕林，不料，媚娘和仕林日久生情，媚娘始终下不了手，最后媚娘为救仕林，自己却落得魂飞魄散，素贞虽在塔中，却感应仕林有难，素贞为救仕林而冲出宝塔，虽救了仕林，但遭「除非西湖水干，雷峰塔倒，否则永世也不得出塔」的刑罚。仕林不负众望，夺得状元，祭拜于雷峰塔前，孝感动天，素贞得以出塔，重见天日，仕林与表妹碧莲结为夫妻。而素贞、小青、法海及许仙四人也因因果已解，功德圆满，得归天界，得成正果
