《小站风云》以小站镇两个显赫家族为竞争贡米名份展开激烈博弈、竞争过程中尽显出来的稻耕文化魅力为底蕴。该剧由军旅作家周振天担纲编剧，汇集了陈昭荣、韩雯雯、杨若兮等实力男女明星，讲述了一段关于民国时期大历史下的爱恨情仇的故事。《小站风云》是以甲午战争、小站练兵、辛亥革命、护国战争等重要历史事件为背景，主要讲述清末民初，天津小站刘、李、高三家从贡米之争，到或主动参与、或被动卷入时代变革大潮。剧中有台湾一哥之称陈昭荣饰演一位忠贞赤胆的北洋水师学生、为民族大义奔波，情感方面历经坎坷的刘德胜。该剧讲述辛亥革命后，袁世凯复辟称帝。此时，刘德胜(陈昭荣饰)已经加入蔡锷的护国军，1916年刘德胜与朱德等跟随护国军北上讨伐他原来的老上级袁世凯。在攻打泸州城之战中，攻城的刘德胜(陈昭荣饰)遭遇了效忠袁世凯的发小李占魁。刘德胜率领护国军誓死攻城，北洋军李占魁也杀红了眼，战斗极其惨烈。 在拍戏的过程中，由于需要真实的场景，陈昭荣的手和脚都受了伤，已经肿了起来，剧组要求他休息，他却坚持拍摄，并且认为《小站风云》有别于他过去拍的打戏，因为该剧真实的呈现了时代特点。
