剧情梗概：
1936年北平，中日大战在即，政势动乱。紫町从日本留学归国，隐居在北平皇粮胡同，开设诊所医病救人。胡同口的旅店着火，烧死一人，探长严大浦草草结案。紫町因为意外事件介入此案调查，却在嫌疑人中意外发现幼时玩伴律师曾佐。紫町缜密推断冷静分析，将真正凶手绳之以法。严大浦为保住官位，聘紫町为法医参与案件。此后，严大浦与曾佐分庭抗礼，情感上都在追求紫町。但是，案件上往往是紫町的分析起到决定性的作用；情感上紫町也心有所属，没有两个人的空间。原来，紫町归国背负父亲身亡之谜，而唯一的谜底只有未婚夫小原正树知道。因为紫町等人的侦查，小原被迫以日本军人的身份出现。一时间，紫町陷于民族利益与个人情感的矛盾纠结中，在严大浦和曾佐的帮助下，紫町大义灭亲，将日本酝酿已久的阴谋链条从中断了一个致命的缺口。
