剧情梗概：
上世纪80年代末，胡八一（陈坤饰）、王凯旋（黄渤饰）与Shirley杨（舒淇饰）在美国打算金盆洗手，本来叱咤风云的摸金校尉沦为街头小贩被移民局追得满街跑。就在此时，意外发现20年前死在草原上的初恋对象丁思甜（杨颖饰）可能还活着，胡八一、王凯旋、Shirley杨决定再入草原千年古墓影片剧照：幕后花絮筹备该片的两年中，乌尔善为此学习了倒斗，去了很多墓穴和博物馆，并且在专家的带领下学习风水学、了解极限运动。该片曝光的预告片戏份拍摄时温度高达50度，演员们穿着四层戏服，背着一个沉重的装备包，还要吊着威亚做空中翻滚，难度相当大，但演员们还是亲自上阵没用替身。天下霸唱在接受采访时表示过绝对不会当编剧，但是导演诱骗他，说来当顾问，结果后来天天一起开会，被生生磨成了一个编剧。天下霸唱在选角上的意见是：胡八一当过解放军连长，王胖子则生长在部队大院，两人都需要有军人的英气。该片提前一年开启全球预售，杀青之际已经卖出6个国家地区的版权。幕后制作项目启动《鬼吹灯》的前四本改编版权被中影拿下，而后四本版权则被万达买到，并邀来陈国富、乌尔善合作打造，电影初步名定为《寻龙诀》。叶宁某天与王中磊、王长田一同在长白山散步，三人不谋而合，决定联合出品这部电影。而王中磊与陈国富做《狄仁杰》时，就想过一定要拍《鬼吹灯》，而那时，叶宁已经先下手拿到了版权，就只能一直死皮赖脸地追着这件事，长白山其实是他的小阴谋，最后终于合作成功。最终的完稿剧本，是原作者与张家鲁一起，在两年内不断调整思路，大概改了七八回、写了几百稿之后最终的成果，其间还无奈毁了华谊的两个编剧约。由于中国电影向来不能拍鬼，片名做了改动，寻龙诀在原著中有重要作用，书迷看到这个名字就会明白电影与《鬼吹灯》的关系，而在改编过程中规避了鬼的内容。
