The Abbey of Thelema in Sicily was a small house used in the 1920s for magical rituals by Aleister Crowley, the famous occultist with links to Fernando Pessoa, and his followers. The charred ruins of famous occultist Aleister Crowley's Sicilian villa are the site of a resurrection. As Crowley's diaries and poems are read aloud, they wake the dead. Odes to cocaine, poltergeists, orgies, Rabelais and Gauguin. Accounts of post-mortem visits by filmmaker Kenneth Anger and sexologist Alfred Kinsey stir up even more spirits in this uproarious tongue-in-cheek satire, whose filthy and formal language betray the actual horrors wrought by the human heart.
