剧情梗概：
在台北市即将进入联考的紧张又炎热的夏天里，刘志强整天幻想着带暗恋的女孩去绿岛上坐潜水艇游海底，做着热带鱼的美梦。在又一次令父母失望的模考成绩下，他偶然在电视上看见一起绑架案，试图只身解救小孩没想到自己反被抓了去。绑匪阿庆（林正盛饰）是自乡下来台北混世的打工仔，勒索失败后他把两个小孩带回了家。阿庆全家人生活困顿却其乐融融，一面悉心安顿两个小孩的生活另一面想办法如何获得高额的绑票。阿庆甚至找来辍学妹妹阿娟闲置的书本让刘志强继续复习。最终，警察还是找到了被阿庆带到海上逃避追捕的刘志强，可刘志强却否认阿庆是绑匪阿庆与老大两名绑匪，在绑架富家小孩时，意外将一名国中生企图搭救也绑走，经历老大车祸身亡，阿庆只好将两个小孩带回老家躲藏，一边想办法取赎款，却同时帮即将面临联考的国中生温习功课。陈玉勳导演以幽默手法，展现小人物们的纯真与可爱面貌，本片亦是已逝世的文英阿姨从影最动人的代表作品。
