在这部年轻姑娘惊悚/犯罪片中,正在海边散步的罗伯特（Derrick De Marney 饰）意外发现了一个女人的尸体，他和尸体共处的场景被两个女孩目击，她们报了警。让罗伯特没有想到的是，杀死女人的凶器竟然正是自己风衣上的腰带，而他的风衣在早前失窃，下落不明。警方当然不相信罗伯特的这套说辞，他被迫站在了法庭之上，等待即将到来的审判。                            　　愤愤不平的罗伯特鼓起勇气逃出了法庭，偶然间遇见了警局督查的女儿艾瑞卡（Nova Pilbeam 饰），善良正直的艾瑞卡决心帮助罗伯特找回他丢失的风衣，找到能够证明他清白的线索。两人循着线索找到了风衣，并且得知了偷窃风衣的贼有着喜欢不断眨眼的怪癖这一重要线索，然而再无其他。陷入了绝望之中的罗伯特选择了自首，就在这个节骨眼上，真凶露出了马脚。
