剧情梗概：
文革期间，医学专家陈雨莳被批斗时不忍羞辱自杀，妻子廖静做为反动学术权威也险些被整死，幸得转业军人袁长喜帮助才逃过一劫。随后陈家房产被瓜分，住进了文革造反起家、同为医院职工的李美娣和救命恩人袁长喜两家。袁长喜的儿子袁刚，从小喜欢陈雨莳和廖静的女儿陈涵秋，但是公主陈涵秋毫不在意。　　下乡后，公主爱上了李美娣的表弟李劲松，偏偏遭到李劲松的背弃。陈涵秋未婚先孕含恨自杀却被袁刚救起，为了保护陈涵秋的名誉，袁刚毅然与陈涵秋结婚，陈涵秋身不由己接受袁刚。回城后两个人面临三个家庭纠结的难关。陈涵秋母亲和弟弟不能接受袁刚，袁刚母亲却担心儿子会受公主欺负；而李美娣则因表弟对陈涵秋的纠缠不断介入纠纷；加上外来情感的诱惑和骚扰，使得男女主人公在感情事业两方面苦苦挣扎；最后是千辛万苦企图隐瞒的儿子血缘身世曝光，再次把两人和三个家庭推到风口浪尖。
