剧情梗概：
为人正直的检查官杜丘（高仓健饰）被人控告犯有抢劫、强奸罪，自知清白的他为了洗清冤屈，开始了一边躲避警察追捕、一边查找事实真相的逃亡。途中，杜丘于山中冒险救下牧场主的女儿真由美（中野良子饰），两人生出真情。在真由美及其父亲的帮助下，历尽艰险的杜丘终于拨开重重迷雾，在一家精神病院，他找到了诬告自己的横路进二，但对方已神智不清。为了将其中隐情一一揭出，杜丘装病住进这家医院，开始小心翼翼的调查求证，巨大的政治阴谋遂即浮出水面。剧情版本二：本片是我国引进的第一部日本电影！为人正直善良的检察官杜丘(高仓健饰)突然遭到莫名的冤屈，被人冤枉成抢劫犯。为了洗刷自己的冤屈，杜丘决定自己追查被诬陷的真相。他一边躲避警察的追捕，一边为自己寻找证据证明清白。善良的杜丘在逃亡途中，救下了农场主的女儿真由美(中野良子饰)，美丽的真由美爱上了正直的杜丘，她决定帮助杜丘走出困境。真由美和父亲给了杜丘很大的帮助，杜丘从东京辗转到北海道，终于在一家精神病院查到了诬告自己的横路进二(田中邦卫饰)，为了查明真相，杜丘也装病住进了这间医院，原来所有的一切都因制药厂长冈(西村晃饰)引起，是他买通横路陷害杜丘，事情终于真相大白，杜丘终于重获自由
